We are pleased to announce that Justice Lab Director Bruce Western has accepted the position of President of the Russell Sage Foundation. Professor Western will continue in his role as Director of the Justice Lab into 2025, and will take up the role of President at the Russell Sage Foundation in July 2025.
Over the past seven years, Dr. Western has been a steadfast leader of the Columbia Justice Lab. He has heralded new projects across issues, convened stakeholders from across regions and disciplines, and worked to enable conversations that bridge gaps within some of the country’s most divisive foundational concepts. While his leadership of the Justice Lab will be missed, we have no doubt that his new role will afford Dr. Western deep opportunities to affect change at scale.
The projects at the Justice Lab will continue their work, led by the Lab’s project directors who launched, shaped, and grew each of their projects since their inception. Their work — our work — remains the urgent center of our attention.
We are thrilled for Professor Western, and look forward to the impactful work he will do with The Russell Sage Foundation.
