The Justice Lab is hosting an art exhibit featuring Russell Craig's "Figure." Craig uses leather in his mural pieces to represent the black body in America in systems of oppression from mass supervision to police brutality to the disproportionate number of black people who are incarcerated in America's criminal justice system. The different colors of the leather bags represent shades of color across black bodies.

Self-taught, Philadelphia-native artist Russell Craig’s work focuses on social and political themes. Growing up in the foster care system, Craig was drawn to art as a way to escape his reality. After having spent seven years in prison for a non-violent drug offense, Russell employs art as a tool to explore the experiences of over-criminalized communities.

His work has been shown at the Philadelphia African American Museum, in the HBO's The OG Experience and highlighted in various publications including, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian. Craig is an alumni of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Restorative Justice Guild Program. He is also a 2017 Right of Return Fellow and a 2018 Ford Foundation: Art for Justice Fellow.
